Regionalisation and added value in Maribor

Slovenia plans to phase out coal for electricity generation by 2033 and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 55 per cent by 2030. The updated National Energy and Climate Plan targets at least 85 per cent domestic electricity supply by 2030 and 100 per cent by 2040.

Yet a gap yawns between ambition and reality. Slovenia has just three wind turbines. Grid capacity constrains the expansion of renewables. Transport remains the only sector where emissions continue to rise.

The forum brings together key energy companies to examine whether the projects they are developing or building add up to a credible answer to the fundamental question: can Slovenia become energy self-sufficient, and what does that mean in practice?

The second part asks how Maribor, with its geostrategic location and existing infrastructure, can become the region's logistics hub. Energy sovereignty and logistics connectivity are two facets of the same ambition: reducing dependence, making better use of existing infrastructure, and creating conditions for new added value and investment.
